The MX-642 is a compact tabletop mixer showcasing features of larger, more expensive consoles. Six mono mic or line inputs plus four stereo inputs offer a variety of signal sources. Each mono input has both XLR and 1/4" inputs for connection to a microphone or line level signal. A gain control is useful for attenuating the mic or line level down to a level that is usable in relation to other inputs. Three bands of EQ are provided for clear sound on each mono channel and two bands on each stereo channel. Peak indicators offer both quick and easy visual monitoring that help prevent excessive input levels, while a smooth slide fader gives precise and stable volume control for each channel. Phantom power allows for the use of condenser mics, adding to the unit's versatility.
The stereo inputs have a gain select switch for quick impedance-matching and selection for various sources, including CD and cassette players as well as aux assign and balance control.
The master section includes a headphone jack and control for pre-fade
listen while a tape input is used to return the tape deck output to the
masters, for an additional input to the master section. A tape out allows
an output from the master section for recording overall stereo output.
